Key dates for BFCM 2026 in Australia
Black Friday is the day after US Thanksgiving, which lands on Thursday 26 November in 2026. That makes the key dates:
- Black Friday: Friday 27 November 2026.
- Cyber Monday: Monday 30 November 2026.
- Click Frenzy: a separate Australian online sale. Its main event has usually run in mid-November, before Black Friday. Check the official Click Frenzy calendar for this year's dates before you plan around it.
- Christmas shipping cut-offs: Australia Post and other carriers publish their cut-off dates each year, usually in the first half of December for standard parcels to some destinations. Check your carriers' dates and put them on your site.
Time zones matter more than people expect. In late November, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart are on daylight saving time (AEDT, UTC+11). Brisbane stays on AEST (UTC+10), Adelaide is on ACDT (UTC+10:30) and Perth is on AWST (UTC+8). Midnight AEDT is 9pm in Perth. If your sale "ends at midnight", say which midnight.
Why a sale page beats a discount banner
A banner that says "30% off everything" on your normal homepage asks shoppers to do the work. They have to find the products, guess the sale price and work out whether it's a good deal. During BFCM, when every inbox is full of offers, that friction costs sales.
A dedicated sale page does that work for them:
- One message, one job. Every block on the page is about the offer. No blog links, no unrelated collections.
- Savings shown as numbers. "$89, was $129" lands faster than a percentage the shopper has to calculate.
- A curated range. You decide which products lead, so stock you have plenty of and margin you can afford get the best spots.
- One link for every channel. Email, SMS, paid social and your announcement bar all point at the same page, which makes it easy to measure.
It's the same idea as a campaign landing page. Our guide to landing pages vs product pages on Shopify explains when each one makes sense.
Choose an offer that protects margin
Your offer decides how much money you keep, so settle it before anything gets designed. The main options are:
| Offer type | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| Flat % off sitewide | Simple, easy to promote | Discounts every order equally, including people who'd buy anyway; no pull on order size |
| Tiered (spend $X, save more) | Bigger saving is tied to a bigger order; lifts order value | Needs clear progress messaging in the cart |
| Bundles and sets | Moves more units; you control the margin per bundle | Needs good pairings and enough stock of each part |
| Gift with purchase | Keeps full prices visible; low real cost if the gift is cheap to make | Gift has to feel genuinely valuable |
| Selected products only | Protects your best sellers' margin | Weaker headline; can feel like a clearance |
For most stores, a short tier ladder works well. For example (hypothetical): 15% off orders over $80, 20% off over $150, plus free shipping on everything over $80. Each step is reachable with one more typical item, and the deeper discount only applies to larger orders.
Before you commit, do the maths on a typical order at each tier. Take the sale price, subtract product cost, shipping, packaging and payment fees, and check what's left. If the deepest tier leaves almost nothing, pull it back. Our guides to Shopify bundles and upsells and increasing average order value go deeper on building the ladder, and the free shipping threshold guide covers how sale discounts change where your threshold sits.
One rule from Australian Consumer Law to keep in mind: "was" prices and savings claims must be genuine. Don't raise prices in October so the November discount looks bigger.
Sale page structure, top to bottom
A good BFCM page reads in the order a shopper thinks. Here's a structure that works for most stores.
- Hero. The offer in one line ("Up to 20% off. Ends Monday 30 Nov, 11:59pm AEDT"), one button, and a product image. No carousel.
- How the offer works. The tier ladder in plain numbers, so nobody has to read the fine print to understand it.
- Hero products. Four to eight best sellers with sale price, original price and the dollar saving. Add to cart straight from the grid where you can.
- Bundles. Pre-built sets with the bundle saving shown clearly.
- Shop by need. A few simple paths such as "Gifts under $50", "For him", "For the kitchen". A product quiz can also help gift buyers who don't know the range.
- Trust. Real reviews, returns policy, delivery times and payment options such as Afterpay and Shop Pay.
- Shipping and Christmas cut-offs. When orders ship and the last day to order for Christmas delivery.
- Short FAQ. Can I stack codes? Can I return sale items? When does the sale end?
Keep the sale price logic automatic. Automatic discounts or sale prices set on the products themselves avoid the "my code didn't work" emails that pile up on Black Friday morning.
Honest urgency
Urgency helps people decide, but only when it's real. Fake countdowns that reset on refresh and "only 2 left" badges on items you have hundreds of damage trust and can mislead customers.
- A real end time. State the date, time and time zone. If you use a countdown timer, it should count to that exact moment for everyone.
- Real stock. Low stock messages should come from your actual inventory. If you have plenty, don't pretend otherwise.
- Real deadlines. Christmas shipping cut-offs are honest urgency that sale shoppers genuinely care about.
- Keep your word. If the sale ends Monday night, end it Monday night. Extending it trains customers to ignore your deadlines next year.
Design for mobile first
Most BFCM traffic arrives from an email, an SMS or a social post opened on a phone, so design the page on a phone first and the desktop version second.
- Put the offer and a button in the first screen, with no need to scroll.
- Use large tap targets and a sticky add-to-cart or "Shop the sale" button.
- Compress images and cut apps you don't need. Pages slow down under peak traffic, and every extra script makes that worse.
- Make express checkout options visible: Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Afterpay save typing on a small screen.
- Test on a real phone over mobile data, not only on office wi-fi.

Build your list before the sale
The cheapest Black Friday sales come from people who already know you. Every subscriber you add in October and early November is someone you can reach for free on launch day.
- Early-access sign-up. Run a "Get early access to our Black Friday sale" form from mid-October. Early access is a reward that costs you nothing.
- Collect SMS consent. SMS is well suited to launch-moment messages like "The sale is live". Only text people who've opted in.
- Segment. Tag early-access sign-ups, past customers and VIPs so each group gets the right message at the right time.
- Warm up your sending. If you haven't emailed much lately, send useful emails through October so your first sale email doesn't land in spam.
- Check your flows. Make sure your welcome, abandoned checkout and post-purchase flows work. Our Klaviyo flows guide covers the essentials, and the abandoned cart recovery guide explains how to adjust recovery messages during a sale.
Week-by-week timeline from October
Here's a plan that works backwards from Friday 27 November.
Week of 5 October: decide
Set your goals and budget. Pull last year's sale data if you have it. Choose the offer, run the margin maths and confirm stock orders with suppliers.
Week of 12 October: plan the page and the list
Sketch the sale page on a phone screen. Launch your early-access sign-up form. Decide if you're joining Click Frenzy as well, and how that offer differs from Black Friday.
Weeks of 19 and 26 October: build
Build the sale page as a hidden page or unpublished template. Set up discounts, bundles and cart messaging. Write product copy and get photography sorted.
Week of 2 November: test
Run full test orders at every tier, on mobile and desktop, with each payment method. Check discounts don't stack in ways you didn't plan. If you have the traffic, A/B test key parts of the page before the sale, when there's time to act on the result. Our Shopify A/B testing guide explains how.
Week of 9 November: write and schedule
Write and schedule the launch emails and SMS messages. Brief customer service with answers to likely questions. Prepare ads and creative.
Week of 16 November: freeze
Freeze theme and app changes. Do a final check of speed, links and stock. Tease the sale to your list.
Week of 23 November: launch
Open early access to subscribers if you're offering it. Go live for everyone on Black Friday, send reminders over the weekend and a last-chance message on Cyber Monday.
Week of 30 November and December: follow up
End the sale on time, then move to Christmas messaging and shipping cut-offs.
Launch-day checklist
Run through this the night before and again on the morning of launch.
- Sale page published and linked from the homepage hero and announcement bar.
- Discounts or sale prices live, scheduled to start and end at the right times in the right time zone.
- A test order placed at each tier, with the totals checked.
- Countdown timer counting to the real end time.
- Stock levels correct; sold-out products hidden or moved down the page.
- Every email and SMS link opens the sale page, with tracking tags in place.
- Shop Pay, Afterpay and other payment options working on mobile.
- Shipping rates and delivery times correct, and Christmas cut-offs shown.
- Customer service replies and returns policy ready.
- Analytics working, and someone checking the site every few hours.
What to measure
Pick your numbers before launch so you judge the sale on more than total revenue.
- Revenue per visitor. Combines conversion rate and order value into one number.
- Conversion rate. For the sale page and for each channel. Compare it against your normal rate and the context in our Shopify conversion rate benchmarks guide.
- Average order value and tier mix. How many orders reached each tier tells you whether the ladder worked.
- Margin per order. After discounts, shipping and fees. Big revenue at no margin is not a win.
- New vs returning customers. And, later, how many new customers buy again.
- Mobile vs desktop. A big gap points to a mobile problem worth fixing before next year.

After the sale
The sale isn't finished when the timer hits zero. The weeks afterwards decide whether BFCM buyers become regular customers.
- Close it cleanly. Restore full prices, switch the homepage back and turn off sale messaging in flows and ads.
- Thank new customers. A genuine thank-you and a how-to-use email beat another discount.
- Move to Christmas. Promote gift sets and full-price products, and remind shoppers of shipping cut-offs.
- Plan the second order. Set up a cross-sell or replenishment message timed to when the product runs out.
- Write it down. Note what worked, what broke and what sold out, while it's fresh. Next year's plan starts here.
This is the kind of page Tap Vortex builds: one focused Shopify sale page with a clear tier ladder, savings shown as numbers and honest urgency, A/B tested against your current page. Read more about our Shopify CRO agency work.
FAQ
When is Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2026?
Black Friday 2026 is Friday 27 November and Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November. Many Australian stores run the whole weekend as one event, and some open early access to their email and SMS list in the days before.
Should my Black Friday sale run on AEDT or AWST?
Pick one time zone, say it on the page, and make sure your discounts, countdown and emails all use it. Most national stores use AEDT because it covers Sydney and Melbourne, but midnight AEDT is 9pm in Perth, so mention the local time for WA shoppers if your sale ends at midnight.
Is a sitewide percentage off the best Black Friday offer?
Not usually. A flat percentage off is simple but discounts every order equally, including customers who would have bought anyway. Tiered offers (spend more, save more) and bundles tend to protect margin better because the bigger saving is tied to a bigger order. Run the margin maths on each option before you choose.
When should I start planning a Shopify Black Friday sale?
Start in early October. That gives you time to settle the offer, build and test the sale page, order stock, grow your early-access list and set up your email and SMS flows before November. Freeze theme and app changes about a week before launch.
Is Click Frenzy the same as Black Friday?
No. Click Frenzy is a separate Australian online sale event, and its main event has usually run in mid-November, ahead of Black Friday. Some stores join both, others save their biggest offer for Black Friday. Check the official Click Frenzy calendar for this year's dates.
What should I do after the Black Friday sale ends?
End the sale on time, restore full prices and switch your homepage back. Then thank new customers, send a useful post-purchase sequence, and invite them back with your Christmas range and clear shipping cut-off dates. The goal is to turn sale buyers into repeat customers.
