Why supplement stores leak
Supplement stores leak because the shopper has to work out what they need on their own, then buys one thing once. The range is wide, the labels look alike, and the page gives no path from "I'm interested" to "this is my routine".
- Choice overload across a range. Protein, greens, electrolytes, collagen, magnesium, each in three flavours and two sizes. A grid of 40 tubs makes the shopper do all the sorting. Plenty leave instead.
- Unclear which product fits. Is the plant protein or the whey right for them? Does it suit their diet? If the page doesn't answer, "I'll research it later" wins.
- One-off purchases, no repeat. A tub runs out in a month, but nothing on the page or after it plans for that. The customer drifts to a chemist or a competitor when they run low.
- Flat discounts that train buyers. 20% off everything gives away margin on the first tub, offers no reason to add a second, and teaches customers to wait for the next sale.
None of that is a button-colour problem. The page needs a different shape. If you want to see what those leaks might be costing you, work out what your store is leaking.
How a guided vortex fits supplements
A guided vortex fits supplements because it replaces the grid with one path that narrows the range, explains the fit and builds the order as the shopper goes. Here's how each piece maps to a supplement range.
A goal-based quiz, only where it helps
Three or four quick taps can do the sorting for the shopper: their goal, their routine and any dietary needs, such as vegan, dairy-free or caffeine-free. We add a quiz only where it genuinely lifts the order. If your range is small and obvious, we leave it out. Our Shopify product quiz guide covers when a supplement quiz earns its place.
"Your stack", with why it fits
The answers become a recommendation: "your stack", showing the products that match and a plain-English line on why each one is there, based on what the shopper told you. "You said you train four mornings a week and avoid dairy, so here's the plant protein and the electrolytes." It explains the match without making claims about outcomes.
A bundle ladder to a 2–3 product stack
Supplement bundles work best as a ladder, not a fixed kit. One product, then two, then a full 2–3 product stack, with the saving growing at each step. The shopper builds the order with one-tap adds, and the discount grows with the order instead of being handed out flat. For the wider playbook, see Shopify bundles and upsells.
Per-serve price drops
Supplement buyers think in serves. Showing the price per serve dropping as the stack grows makes a bigger order feel like the sensible choice rather than a splurge. It's one of the clearest ways to increase AOV for supplements. Our guide on how to increase average order value on Shopify goes deeper.
Subscribe-and-save framing
If your store already offers supplement subscriptions on Shopify, the vortex frames that option at the moment it makes most sense: once the stack is built and the shopper can see their routine. The saving is itemised alongside everything else, so it reads as part of the deal, not a pop-up.
Replenishment timing from stated usage
If a shopper says they'll use a product daily, a 30-serve tub tells you roughly when they'll run low. That answer becomes zero-party data for Klaviyo reorder flows, timed to their usage rather than a generic "we miss you" email. Our guide to Klaviyo flows for Shopify shows how to put those answers to work.
The five stages, applied to a supplement brand
Every Tap Vortex page runs on the same five stages: Pull, Spin, Spiral, Surge and Eye. Here they are applied to a hypothetical Australian supplement brand selling protein, greens and electrolytes. The brand, products and prices are made up for illustration.
1. Pull
The page opens on what's happening now: the live offer, a real countdown to the sale end, a ticker strip and a progress bar. "Build your stack: save more with every product, sale ends Sunday."
2. Spin
One guided path with an instant reward at each step. The shopper picks their goal, their routine and any dietary needs. Each answer narrows the range and moves the progress bar.
3. Spiral
A filtered range appears with "your stack" at the top and why it fits: a vegan protein in their chosen flavour, a greens blend and an electrolyte mix. Less browsing, more buying.
4. Surge
This is where order value grows. In our hypothetical example, every product is $60 for 30 serves ($2.00 a serve):
| Stack size | Saving | Total | Price per serve |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 product | None | $60.00 | $2.00 |
| 2 products | 10% off | $108.00 | $1.80 |
| 3 products | 15% off | $153.00 | $1.70 |
A next-tier nudge ("add one more to save 15%") and a free-shipping tier keep momentum going, and the subscribe-and-save option is framed here as well. Hypothetical figures, AUD.
5. Eye
Itemised savings show exactly what the shopper is getting, the bag is held on a timer, and the order hands off to Shopify checkout as normal. Their answers, including flavour and usage, are saved to their profile for the reorder.
Real urgency only. The countdown is tied to your real sale end. The bag is genuinely held for 15 minutes. Low stock only shows when it's true. No fake timers, ever.
Keep claims compliant
Supplement brands need to keep every claim on the page within the rules, and the vortex is built around your existing, approved wording. We don't write health claims into quiz results or recommendations.
Compliance note. In Australia, advertising for therapeutic goods, including many supplements, must follow the TGA's advertising rules, and all claims must also meet Australian Consumer Law. "Why it fits" copy should reflect what the shopper told you (their routine, diet and preferences), not promise a health outcome. Check your claims with your own regulatory or legal adviser. This is general information, not legal advice.
What's included and pricing
A Tap Vortex build for a supplement brand is $695 + GST, one-off, with no lock-in. That covers the audit, the build and the A/B test set-up. Add-ons are optional.
| Option | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Tap Vortex build | $695 + GST, one-off | Audit of your current page. Built inside your Shopify store on your theme. Products, cart and checkout untouched. A/B test set up against your current page. Live in three weeks. |
| Klaviyo flows | +$1,500 | Every answer turned into email and SMS that sells. |
| Second offer | +$495 | A second vortex for another product or sale. |
| Rush build | +$295 | Live in 7 days. |
| Growth plan | $295/mo | We run the split tests and ship a new lift every month. |
For supplement brands, the Klaviyo flows add-on is where replenishment timing turns into reorder emails and SMS. The full service is explained on our Shopify CRO agency page.
The three-week process
From kick-off to a live split test takes three weeks, or seven days with a rush build.
- Week 1: Audit. We map your page, range, offer and traffic, and find where it leaks.
- Week 2: Build. You add us as a Shopify collaborator. We build the vortex inside your store, on your theme.
- Week 3: Split test. Half your traffic sees your current page, half sees the vortex, and revenue per visitor decides.
- Ongoing: Grow. The winner gets 100% of traffic. Then we test the next lift.
No promises of a specific lift. The test runs on your real traffic and the numbers decide. Want to click through a working example first? Try the interactive overview.
FAQ
Does a quiz suit every supplement store?
No. A quiz earns its place when your range is wide enough that shoppers struggle to pick. If your range is small and the choice is obvious, we leave the quiz out and guide shoppers with the range, the stack and the bundle ladder instead.
Will the page make health claims about my products?
No. The vortex uses your existing, approved product wording. "Why it fits" copy reflects what the shopper told you, such as their routine and dietary needs, rather than promising outcomes. Keep your claims within TGA advertising rules and Australian Consumer Law, and check them with your own adviser.
How do bundles grow order value without flat discounts?
Instead of 20% off everything, the saving grows with the order. A bundle ladder takes the shopper from one product to a 2–3 product stack, with the price per serve dropping at each step and a next-tier nudge showing what one more product unlocks.
Can it help with repeat orders?
Yes. The vortex can frame your subscribe-and-save option once the stack is built, and shoppers' stated usage tells you roughly when they'll run low. With the Klaviyo flows add-on (+$1,500), those answers become timed reorder emails and SMS.
How much does it cost and how long does it take?
A Tap Vortex build is $695 + GST, one-off, with no lock-in. It takes three weeks from kick-off to a live split test: week 1 audit, week 2 build, week 3 split test. With the rush build add-on (+$295), it can be live in 7 days.
