Why apparel stores leak
Apparel stores leak because the typical sale page makes the shopper do all the work: scroll a grid of hundreds, guess their size, buy one tee and leave. Your apparel store conversion rate and your order value both suffer, and that hits revenue per visitor (conversion rate × average order value) twice.
- Scrolling a grid of hundreds. New arrivals, sale, basics, collabs, all on one page. Plenty of shoppers give up before they find their piece.
- Size uncertainty. They love the hoodie, tap it, and find their size is sold out. Or they aren't sure if it runs big. Either way, "later" wins.
- One tee, then gone. Nothing suggests the cargos or the cap that finish the fit, so baskets stay at one item.
- Flat sitewide discounts. 20% off everything gives away margin on the first item and offers no reason to add a second.
- Drops with fake urgency. A timer that resets on refresh teaches your audience to ignore every countdown you ever run.
Not sure how much this costs you? Work out what your store is leaking before you change anything.
How a guided vortex fits apparel
A guided vortex fits apparel because it answers the two questions every fashion shopper has, "do you have it in my size?" and "what do I wear it with?", before they have to ask. It's the same approach as our main Shopify CRO agency service, with the order engine tuned for clothing.
- Size in one tap, and the range follows. The shopper picks their size first. Everything after that is filtered to what's in stock in it. No more falling for a jacket that isn't available.
- Fit preference. Relaxed, regular or oversized. One more tap narrows the range to the cuts they actually wear.
- Complete the look. Once they pick a piece, the page offers the missing piece of the fit, already in their size, with one-tap add.
- A discount that climbs with the bundle. Instead of a flat 20% off, the saving grows with each piece. This is how you increase AOV on a fashion Shopify store without training customers to wait for a sitewide sale. Our guide to Shopify bundles and upsells covers the mechanics.
- Live drop countdown. For a drop launch on Shopify, the countdown is tied to the real sale end. When it hits zero, the offer actually ends.
- Held bag for 15 minutes. The bag is genuinely held while they check out, so nobody loses their size mid-payment.
- Low stock only in their size. "Low stock in your size" shows only when it's true for the size they picked.
Real urgency only. No fake timers, no invented scarcity. Streetwear audiences talk, and one fake countdown costs you trust on every drop after it.
Size, fit and occasion data
Every tap in the vortex builds zero-party data: size, fit preference and occasion, given willingly by the shopper. For a fashion brand, that's some of the most useful data you can own.
- Drop alerts only in their size. Email and SMS that say "the new hoodie just landed in your size" rather than a blanket blast to everyone.
- A size curve for your next production run. See which sizes and fits your engaged shoppers actually ask for, and plan stock around it.
- Occasion-led ranges. Know who's shopping for everyday, going out or gym, and shape the next collection and your paid-ad audiences to match.
If you want those answers flowing into your email, the Klaviyo flows add-on turns every answer into email and SMS that sells. And if you're weighing up a size or style quiz, our Shopify product quiz guide covers when a quiz earns its place and when it doesn't.
The five stages for a streetwear brand
Here's how the five stages could play out for a hypothetical Australian streetwear label running a spring drop. The brand, products and prices below are made up for illustration (all AUD).
1. Pull
The shopper lands from an Instagram story. Up top: "Spring drop: build a fit and save up to 15%", a countdown to the real drop end on Sunday at midnight, a ticker strip and a progress bar. They know the deal within seconds.
2. Spin
Two taps: size (M) and fit (oversized). Each answer gives an instant reward, like a range that instantly shrinks to pieces that fit and a progress bar that moves. No 12-question quiz, just what changes the range.
3. Spiral
Instead of 300 products, they see a filtered range in M and oversized, with "your match" on the $120 heavyweight hoodie and a line on why it fits their picks. Anything sold out in M simply isn't shown.
4. Surge
They add the hoodie. Complete-the-fit offers the $110 cargos in their size: "Add the cargos and save 10% on both." One tap. Then a $45 cap: "Three pieces unlocks 15%." The tier ladder makes each extra piece feel like progress, not a pitch. For more ways to lift basket size, see how to increase average order value on Shopify.
5. Eye
Itemised savings show exactly what they're getting. The bag is held for 15 minutes, "low stock in your size" appears on the cargos only because it's true in M, and the page hands off to normal Shopify checkout.
A note on returns and sizing
Asking for size and fit up front can help reduce returns from sizing doubt, because shoppers only see pieces available in the size and cut they chose. We won't promise a specific drop in your returns rate, though. Your size guide, fit notes and returns policy still do a lot of that work.
What the vortex adds is clarity at the moment of choice, plus a record of what size and fit each customer picked. That gives you something real to compare against when returns do come back.

The three-week process
From kick-off to a live split test takes three weeks, or seven days with a rush build. Plan it so the test is running before your drop goes live.
- Week 1: Audit. We map your page, offer and traffic, and find where it leaks.
- Week 2: Build. You add us as a Shopify collaborator. We build the vortex inside your store, on your theme.
- Week 3: Split test. Half your traffic sees each page, and revenue per visitor decides.
- Ongoing: Grow. The winner gets 100% of traffic. Then we test the next lift.
Don't trust us. Test us. Our Shopify A/B testing guide explains how a fair test works, and you can click through a working example on our interactive overview.
FAQ
Does Tap Vortex work for small fashion and streetwear brands?
Yes. It works with any Shopify store and any offer, including discounts, bundles, gifts or full price. You need a Shopify store with some traffic and a sale, drop or hero product to push. With less traffic, the A/B test simply needs longer to run before revenue per visitor shows a reliable winner.
Can it handle a limited drop launch on Shopify?
Yes. The countdown is tied to your real drop or sale end, the bag is genuinely held for 15 minutes, and low stock only shows when it's true in the shopper's size. With the rush build add-on (+$295), it can be live in 7 days.
Will it change my theme, products or checkout?
No. The vortex is built inside your Shopify store on your existing theme. Your products, cart and checkout stay untouched, and the page hands off to the normal Shopify checkout.
Will it reduce returns from sizing?
It can help, because shoppers choose their size and fit first and only see pieces available in them. We don't promise a specific change in returns. Your size guide and returns policy still matter.
